Brooks Little, the all-time leader in receptions at The University of South Dakota, has been invited to a tryout with the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, May 17.
CAMDENTON - Hometown Hog Jason Whittle has inked a one-year deal to play for the Buffalo Bills for a second straight year and will begin his 10th season as an interior offensive lineman in the NFL.
Whittle spent most of the 2007 season on injured reserve with a torn hamstring he suffered in Week 3.
Did the Bills wait too long in the recent NFL draft to take a tight end that can help spark their 30th-ranked passing game? Club officials don't believe so. Derek Fine, a 6-3, 250-pound fifth-year senior who helped Kansas win a school-record 12 games last fall, was selected in the fourth round by Buffalo 132nd overall and the 10th tight end overall.
The Bills continue to discuss a contract extension for four-year veteran WR Lee Evans and their agreement to play a series of games in Toronto has to help their cash flow.
The Bills have added two more quarterbacks to their roster to round out the competition heading into offseason workouts and training camp. They are Matt Baker, who has spent time with Miami, Houston, Arizona and New Orleans the past two seasons and college free agent Luke Drone of Illinois State. That gives Buffalo five quarterbacks with Trent Edwards and J.P. Losman firmly entrenched as No. 1 and 2.
KANSAS CITY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: The rookie has two bags, an MP3 player and a ticket he's eyeballing like a straight-flush poker hand. He fetches a ride with his girlfriend, because his old green clunker died months ago. She tells him she loves him, and that she'll see him in three days.
They know, as they say goodbye in a crowded hallway near the security gate, that his life is about to change.
A federal judge in Virginia has ordered imprisoned NFL quarterback Michael Vick to repay more than $2.4 million to a Canadian bank for defaulting on a loan.
The Royal Bank of Canada sued Vick in September, arguing his guilty plea to federal dogfighting charges and the resulting impact on his career prevented him from repaying the loan.
Most of my knowledge about police operating procedure is based on what I've seen on television and what my sports editor, a former crime reporter, tells me.
Fortunately, my only firsthand experience involves speeding and failure to come to a complete stop. (Come to think of it, some of my columns suffer from the same problems.)
Regular readers of this column may recall how a few weeks ago I mentioned watching Night After Night in the early 1990s. I said I missed host Allan Havey and his announcer, Nick Bakay.
After that column ran I got an e-mail from Bakay, who I consider a comedy god. What follows is our e-mail Q&A session.
